PARIS: Pakistan was
re-elected to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the term 2015-19,
during elections held in Paris, yesterday evening. Pakistan has the
singular honour of being a member of the UNESCO Executive Board
consecutively since 1978. Since 2013, Pakistan has won 21 elections out
of 22 that it contested. The UNESCO vote is a firm endorsement of the
positive contribution made by Pakistan in promoting greater
intercultural understanding through scientific, educational and social
linkages. It also reaffirms Pakistan's commitment to build on these core
ideals of UNESCO to further strengthen this human-centric vision of
cooperation. Pakistan will continue to be guided by these principles
during its next term at UNESCO, a foreign office statement said in
Islamabad after the election.
